Lexington Students Named Science Talent Search Semi-Finalists
A group of 40 student finalists will be selected to travel to Washington D.C. and compete for a final prize of $250,000.

LEXINGTON, MA – Two Lexington High School students were named a semi-finalists in this year's Science Talent Search.
Senior Vivek Gopalakrishnan was selected for the project "Reduced Body Fat Accumulation and Decreased Viability: The Effects of Epigallocatechin Gallate on Caenorhabditis elegans," which studied the impact of an acid common in many dietary supplements (Epigallocatechin Gallate) on roundworms (Caenorhabditis elegans).
Senior Veda Murthy was highlighted for the project "Towards a More Accurate Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to Classify Glioma Nuclear Images."

Both are among 300 Science Talent Search Scholars – semi-finalists – selected by Regeneron for the nation's premier pre-college science competition. From the pool of Scholars, 40 finalists will be chosen to travel to Washington, D.C. and participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists and compete for awards, including the top prize of $250,000.
Science Talent Search alumni have gone on to make great advances in science and mathematics and hold several notable honors, including the Nobel Prize and the National Medal of Science.
