Lexington Town Meeting Bans Plastic Bags
Residents will be encouraged to bring reusable bags in lieu of receiving checkout bags.

LEXINGTON, MA – The Lexington Town Meeting voted Monday night to ban the use of thin-film single-use plastic bags. The ban passed 158-10, according to the Lexington Minuteman.
The ban does not include laundry, dry cleaning, newspaper, produce, pastry or wrapping bags but applies to single-use plastic checkout bags. Residents will be encouraged to bring reusable bags to establishments that typically give out plastic bags at checkout.
The article was inserted by Janet Moran and at least nine more registered voters, the Minuteman reported. The motion put before the Town Meeting reflected Moran's request that bags less than 2.25 mil be banned, instead of 4.0 mil.
