Minuteman has hands-on programs for students during Feb. vacation

Minuteman Offers Hands-On Programs for School-Age Students During February Vacation

LEXINGTON – Wondering what to do with your kids during February vacation?

Why not register them for one of the many exciting, hands-on programs offered by Minuteman Community Education during the February holiday break? Programs are open to students in grades 1-12 and will run Tuesday, February 20 through Friday, February 23, 2018.

Programs include Artrageous Art, Aspiring Chefs, Beginner Baking, Creative Writing, Digital Photography, Drivers Education, Engineering Workshop, Games Galore, Graphic Design, Minuteman Sports, Work-It Circuits, and a new Pre-Apprentice Workshop for those interested in the highway and construction trades.

Morning sessions run from 8:30 to 11:30 am and afternoon sessions run from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm. Students can register for just one program or bring lunch and stay the full day.

Minuteman Community Education is a part of Minuteman High School, the award-winning regional high school that gives its graduates a competitive edge in the new global economy by providing them with a high-quality career and technical education, coupled with a rigorous grounding in mathematics, English, science, and social studies.

At Minuteman, students can currently major in a host of career and technical education programs at the same time they take rigorous academic courses, similar to those in traditional academic high schools. Minuteman offers a wide selection of academic courses and programs, including foreign languages (Spanish, French and Latin), art, Advanced Placement courses, and Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). It also offers a wide range of sports and does not charge any fees to participate.

After graduation, more than 60% of the school’s graduates pursue college or advanced training.

Minuteman has been spotlighted in several major media outlets, including The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and National Public Radio. It was also featured in a book, Job U: How to Find Wealth and Success by Developing the Skills Companies Actually Need.

The Minuteman district includes 10 member communities: Acton, Arlington, Belmont, Bolton, Concord, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Needham, and Stow.
