This honor is awarded every term to one student from each grade level based upon nominations from teachers. The criteria include attendance, character and improvement, according to Assistant Principal Brian Tildsley.

The students chosen are freshman Padraig “Paddy” Wallace of Arlington, sophomore Julia Gomes of Lexington, junior Kimmee Hanson of Lancaster and senior Giacomo Zuccala of Woburn. All four were given certificates in recognition of this achievement, had their photos taken and were treated to lunch with Minuteman Principal Jack Dillon in the school’s student-run restaurant, The Fife & Drum.

Freshman Padraig “Paddy” Wallace was nominated for Student of the Term by his mathematics instructor, Carrie E. W. Bernstein, who is impressed by his consistently cheerful, outgoing attitude. He is majoring in Biotechnology, enjoys chemistry and is thinking of attending either Georgia Tech or M.I.T. Mr. Wallace is interested in someday using nanotechnology to do site-specific cancer removal. He is on the Student Council and the math team and likes calligraphy, writing and poetry.

Sophomore Julia Gomes is “kind, considerate, and a true team player,” according to Cosmetology teacher Melissa McLaughlin. “She always strives to do her best,” added Ms. McLaughlin. Ms. Gomes’ favorite academic subject is mathematics. In her free time, she likes dancing and playing the ukulele. She wants to be a licensed cosmetologist and work in a salon.

Hospitality / Chef Instructor Anita Currier praised junior Kimmee Hanson for being “conscientious and thoughtful” as well as an “exemplary peer teacher” who brings “an upbeat perspective and positivity to the class.” Her extra-curriculars include Girls in STEM, singing with an a cappella group, swimming, National Honor Society, and the Community Service Club. She also likes drawing, digitalized painting, writing, cooking and baking. Her favorite academic subjects are French and English Language Arts. Ms. Hanson intends to apply to the Culinary Institute of America after she graduates from high school and wants to own her own cake decorating business or restaurant.

Senior Giacomo Zuccala is doing extremely well at his co-op job, notes his Telecommunications instructor Rich Caruso. He is getting A’s from his employer. He has had perfect attendance and both his portfolio and senior project are first-rate. Mr. Zuccala loves playing soccer, traveling in New England during the winter and snowboarding. His future goals include starting his own business and combining it with his interest in traveling.

Minuteman has distinguished itself by building a reputation for excellence. Its students consistently excel and have won numerous awards at state and national competitions. Minuteman challenges all students to revolutionize their high school expectations by aspiring to their full potential, accelerating their learning, and achieving success in the 21st-century global economy.
