Minuteman Receives $10k Competitive Planning Grant

The grants aim to expand access to career and technical education in Massachusetts.

LEXINGTON, MA — Minuteman High School has been selected as one of twelve schools and school districts to receive a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in August.

According to an announcement from Minuteman High School, the school has been awarded a $10,000 Career and Technical Education Partnership Planning Grant. The grant aims to help expand existing programs, or create new programs, to increase access to career and technical education in Massachusetts.

“We’re very pleased to be one of a handful of vocational schools selected to take part,” said Dr. Edward A. Bouquillon, Minuteman’s Superintendent said in a statement. “We look forward to working with our partner schools and businesses in our region to expand student access to high-quality career and technical education.”

The grants ranged between $6,000 and $10,000. Approximately 29 schools and school districts applied for the grants.

According to the announcement, Minuteman will be exploring several possible options. The options include expanding its half-day "Minuteman in the Morning program serving students from non-vocational high schools; offering an Advanced Manufacturing program to retrain adults; launching an after-school career exploratory program to serve middle school students and expanding career exploratory programs for middle school students during February, April and Summer vacations.

Work done under the planning grant must be completed by Oct. 31, and schools may then apply for grants of up to $150,000 to implement their ideas.
