Pat Gill, Local High School Football Star, Dies in Crash

A Winchester High School student was killed early Saturday morning after his car drove off the roadway.

Winchester police said the accident occurred on Manomet Road near High Street around 7 a.m. Saturday, when Winchester police and fire crews responded and transported the 17-year-old male victim to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, where he was pronounced dead.

While Winchester police said they were not able to release the victim’s identification due to his age, CBS Boston reported Saturday that the victim was Winchester High School WHS senior Pat Gill, a captain of the school’s football team. He played wide receiver and safety.

“Winchester Police responded to a single-car accident this morning that resulted in the tragic death of a 17-year-old boy,” Winchester Police Chief Kenneth C. Albertelli said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family on this difficult day. Right now we are working with our partners in State law enforcement to determine what exactly happened. IT would be premature to comment further at this time.”

Police said a preliminary investigation Saturday indicated the victim’s car had been traveling east on Manomet Road when it drove off the roadway and crashed. Fire crews on scene reportedly used the Jaws of Life, according to CBS Boston.

The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Division is also assisting in the investigation.
