Primo is an easygoing, laid-back cat. He likes to be petted but he is not demanding about it. Primo was rescued off the street, is very happy to get love and attention now that it is coming his way. He is happy to sit on your lap if you pick him up and pet him, but he does not insist on it. This 2-year-old has recently figured out what toys are for. He especially loves catnip toys and gets very excited about them. Primo is a gentle guy with people. He has been in a foster home with an adult female cat and also with a pair of young males who always wanted to chase his tail and sleep with him in his bed, and he has been very patient with them—he plays with them without taking advantage of his size, and snuggles up to and washes them when they insist on it! We think one visit with Primo and you’ll be as charmed by this guy as we are.

We are the oldest cageless no-kill cat shelter in the country, and we’re located right here in Brighton!
The mission of Gifford Cat Shelter is to provide a safe haven for abandoned, stray, abused, neglected, unwanted and injured cats with the goal of re-homing and ending the needless killing of community and companion cats. It was the first cageless shelter in the country and has been in existence since 1884.
