Q&A with LHS Girls' Basketball Team Captain Kelsey Fenn
Senior hopes to extend Minutemen's season, high school career into tournament.

The girls’ basketball team and tri-captain Kelsey Fenn have just two games remaining in the regular season. The Minutemen must beat either Belmont or Burlington to extend its season and earn a spot in the MIAA North Division 1 tournament.
That’s something Fenn, a senior, would very much enjoy. We caught up with Fenn after the team’s recent senior night to get her perspective on her LHS basketball career.

It was great, I almost cried. It was an emotional night and I happy we got the win (over Melrose High School).
Q. Is it one of those things that you never really thing about until it’s here?

Yeah, I mean I never thought I’d be in this situation. But we still have (two) more games to play until the tournament.
Q. Looking back, what is your best memory of playing basketball at LHS?
Last year, when we played Watertown and Brittany Obi-Tabot. She plays at (Division I Fairfield University), and we played against her and we beat her. We held her to like seven points or something. It was a really great feeling.
Q. What is one thing about your basketball career at LHS you maybe won’t miss?
I love everything about basketball. But one thing I won’t miss, I would say, is after we sprint, one person takes a foul shot and it’s all on them (to make the shot and end the sprints). And when my name’s called its all on me. It feels good when you make it, but when you don’t, it feels like crap.
Q. Is there any song that gets you especially pumped up for games?
“Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith.
Q. What will be your plans for the rest of the school year once basketball is over?
I’m actually going to be playing basketball in the spring now. I have to get ready for next year.
Q. Where will you be a year from now?
I’m going to be at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., and I’ll be playing basketball.
Q. So, is senioritis setting in yet?
Definitely, but basketball season is keeping me going.
Q. How did you learn to basketball, and from whom?
My mom always played basketball and my older sisters always played, so I just loved the game. And I was pretty tall too. I’ve always been pretty tall.
Q. What’s a typical post-game Friday night like for you?
Well, we’ll definitely watch the boys’ game. Usually, I’ll hang out with the team at a friend’s house. Like we’ll have team sleepovers and stuff.
Q. What’s it been like being captain of the Minutemen?
It’s been really fun and exciting, but sometimes difficult. You have to remember it’s not about you at all, it’s about your team. You have to make sure everyone takes care of their responsibilities and make sure everyone feels accepted on the team. But I think this year we had a really great team, everyone gets along.
