Sports Week in Review, Feb. 25 - Mar. 4

LHS teams complete short stint in MIAA sectional tournaments.

Several athletic teams started, and, unfortunately, concluded play in MIAA sectional tournaments this week.

The postseason got under way shortly after the MIAA released and pairings last Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Lexington’s girls’ basketball team was the first to begin the playoffs on Monday night. After a four-game winning streak propelled the Minutemen into the playoffs, they in the Preliminary Round of the Division 1 North sectional. The Minutemen led much of their game against Lawrence High School, but fell behind in the second half.

One night later, on Tuesday, it was the LHS boys’ basketball team’s turn. The upstart Minutemen led defending state champion Central Catholic for much of their First Round meeting, . They staged a comeback in the fourth quarter to bounce Lexington.

Tonight, the girls’ hockey team will try to reverse Lexington’s postseason fortunes. They take on Watertown/Melrose at the John P. Chase Skating Facility.
