Sports Week in Review, July 17 - July 23

Lexington athletes wrap up Bay State Games, bicycle club holds weekly ride, good times on display in men's softball.

Two weeks of athletes from across the state competing in dozens of sports wrapped up earlier this week as the summer edition of the Bay State Games concluded on Sunday.

Plenty of Lexington athletes turned in some fine performances and brought home the hardware to go with it.

The highlight for the locals was Naoko Honda's first place in the Level C Women's Doubles badminton tournament. She teamed with Somerville's Qifang Wu to win the event, the only top finish for a Lexington athlete at the Games.

On Tuesday, the New England Bicycle Club held its weekly Women's Ride in town. The ride is offered to women of all abilities and takes off each week from the Battle Green.

The weekly ride is one of many events the NEBC puts on for cycling enthusiasts throughout the Greater Boston area. The club's website has all the details.

Winning isn't everything in Lexington's men's Senior Softball League. The Naturals taught us that on Thursday.

Long-tenured in the are last in the standings this season, but are still having a good time. The team's playful banter and good-natured ribbing was on display in its game against Foul Play this week.

Coming up this weekend, the Lexington Post 38 American Legion baseball team continues play in the District 5 Chairman's Cup. The remaining 16 District 5 teams not eligible for the state tournament are competing in the inaugural double-elimination playoff. Lexington is seeded second.
