Sports Week in Review, Sept. 4 - Sept. 10

Patch previews the high school sports season by taking a closer look at several LHS teams.

Temperatures are cooling and pretty soon leaves start to change on the trees – summer is over and fall is nearing. And the high school sports season is slowly ramping up.

This week, Lexington Patch took a closer look at several Lexington High School athletic teams as they prepared for the season ahead.

Last Friday, we caught up with the LHS boys' soccer team. The Minutemen had a magical season in 2009 – running an undefeated streak all the way to the semifinals of the Division 1 state tournament.

With many players returning, the Minutemen are expecting another deep playoff push.

Lexington's girls' soccer team is also coming off a successful season, but has a slightly different goal than the boys. Coach Frank Pagliuca told Patch on Monday that he is looking for the Minutemen to play with more consistency this season.

And with 15 girls returning, on-field results shouldn't be hard to come by either.

Unlike their soccer counterparts, the LHS volleyball team has just two starters returning from last year's squad. On Tuesday, senior Fiona Davies spoke about what it will be like this season playing with a nearly entire new lineup.

Davies is one of two senior captains for the Minutemen.

On Friday, Minutemen football coach Bill Tighe told Patch he's excited to get the fall season underway. After a disappointing, but respectable, 6-5 mark last year, Tighe is counting on much better results in 2010.

Tighe is especially optimistic about his junior class, which he has called the most talented he's coached.
