Super Bowl Snowstorm: 10-14 Inches, -25 Wind Chill for Lexington

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service has upped the potential snowfall expected to hit most of Eastern Massachusetts in the next storm on Monday.

The NWS is predicting 10-14 inches of snow for most of Eastern Massachusetts. The South Shore closest to Cape Cod will likely get anywhere from 6-8 to 8-10 inches. Cape Cod and the Islands’ snowfall totals will range from 4-6 inches to 10-14 inches (see snowfall map for specifics), according to the NWS.

The snow should begin to fall early Monday morning and all of Southern New England will see moderate to heavy snow by sunrise on Monday. The snow will fall throughout the day in Eastern Massachusetts with as much as 1 inch per hour possible except for the South Shore and Cape, which will see mixing with rain and freezing rain before turning back to snow, according to the NWS.

The snow is expected to gradually taper off on Tuesday morning.

The NWS said travel will be dangerous during the morning and evening commutes on Monday. Blowing and drifting snow will cause an additional issue with visibility.

The wind will also make the weather unbearable with wind chill factors as low as 25 below zero predicted on Monday.
