Urgent Need For Blood Donations In Lexington

The Red Cross reports that their supply of blood is half of what it should be, and they are limiting the amount of blood they supply to hospitals, even as these hospitals are restarting their elective surgery. This is due to:

• the drop in donations caused by the COVID-19 crisis
• the new Red Cross health protocols, which limit the number of donors they can handle at each blood drive

Please go to the Red Cross Donor website and schedule a donation, even if the next local drive is a few weeks out.

Emerson Hospital in Concord also takes blood donations by appointment.

If You Have Recovered From COVID-19, Your Blood is Needed

Local researchers are trying to determin whether providing plasma to people at risk of COVID-19, or who are already ill, may help prevent illness and/or assist in its treatment. This is called COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Therapy. If you have test positive for COVID-19 and are recovered, you may donate with:

• Red Cross
• Steward’s St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton
• UMass Medical School
