When Does School Start in Lexington?

Here's a look at some important dates on the Lexington Public Schools calendar, and some other helpful back-to-school tips for parents.

LEXINGTON, MA — Parents, you've almost survived the summer. All Lexington students will be back in school by Aug. 31, (schedules vary, see below). The return is immediately followed by another break, with no school Fri., Sept. 2 or Mon., Sept. 5 (Labor Day).

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, Grade 9 students will be in class from 7:45 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. New students in grades 10-12 will be in class from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Grade 6 students at both Clarke and Diamond will be in classes from 8 a.m to 1 p.m., and new students in grades 7-8 will be in classes from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Students in grades K-5 will be in classes from 8:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

All students return for full days of school on Aug. 31.

Gone are the days of Labor Day marking the start of the school season. Tell the kids not to complain - many schools across the country start before the end of August, and some even in July, according to CNN. And parents, no complaining from you either - some schools don't welcome back students until well into September.
