UMass Lowell Joins $480 Million Effort to Bolster Defense Textile Manufacturing (insidelowell.com) — UMass Lowell is becoming a key hub in a 10-year, $480 million FutureTEX initiative to modernize defense-related textile manufacturing, anchored at the Fabric Discovery Center on Canal Street. The project will expand advanced-textile research, support local manufacturers, and create workforce opportunities, including for veterans, strengthening Lowell's long-standing role in textile innovation and the regional economy.
   

2. Lowell works with developers to create Suffolk Place condos (lowellsun.com) — Lowell officials and partners have opened Suffolk Place, a 33-unit affordable condominium development at Suffolk and Market streets in the Acre, with prices between $199,000 and $330,000. Supported by the city's Community Preservation Act funds, MassHousing, and HUD programs, the project offers first-time buyers education, counseling, and down-payment assistance, with some units still available through the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership.
   

3. Lowell teen saves 3-year-old boy's life (lowellsun.com) — A Lowell High School senior used CPR skills learned at the Lowell Police Department's Student Police Academy to save a 3-year-old from drowning while on a family trip in Florida. Her quick actions, later honored with a lifesaving citation in Lowell, highlight how the local youth academy's training in CPR, discipline, and leadership can make a real difference far beyond the city.
   

4. Surgeons Amputate Man's Arm Trapped in Conveyor Belt at Westford, MA, Plant (firehouse.com) — Emergency crews, including surgical and EMS teams from Lowell General Hospital, helped free a worker whose arm was trapped in a conveyor belt at a Westford industrial plant before he was airlifted to a trauma center. The rare, complex rescue drew on regional technical teams and mutual aid, highlighting the critical role Lowell's medical resources play in serious incidents nearby.
