Lynnfield/North Reading Wrestles For Sectional Honors Saturday

Led by Connor Stead, Cape Ann League Dual champions begin MIAA post-season.

A season that exceeded the expectations of its Hall of Fame coach continues with the Division 2 North sectional wrestling tournament at Beverly High School Saturday.

The Lynnfield/North Reading co-op team finished the dual meet season 18-9-1 after a loss to Danvers Wednesday. And if you like numbers, how about this one. Coach Craig Stone now has 1097 career wins and will become just the third coach in state history to win more than 1,100 games early in the Lynnfield tennis season.

The Pioneers graduated six seniors and with only 20 wrestlers on the roster they still managed to earn another Cape Ann League Dual Meet championship. They finished 4-0 in the CAL and 18-9-1 overall. This weekend is the start of the MIAA postseason with 12 meets in Division 1, 2 and 3. Lynnfield/North Reading competes in Division 2 because the co-op teams combine enrollments from both schools to determine alignments.

Along with the team success there was plenty of individual success. Adam Rossetti was named a Cape Ann League All-Star at 138 pounds. Connor Stead earned CAL honors at 145, Anthony Wilkinson at 170, and Joe Reardon was made an "open" selection by Cape Ann coaches. In addition, Stead was named one of three CAL Wrestlers of the Year and Stone was named Coach of the Year.

Tickets in Beverly are $12 for adults, $7 for students.
