2014 Inductees Into Golden Tornado Club Hall of Fame Include Recent Super Bowl Champ
The Golden Tornado Club is hosting its 30th Annual Hall of Fame and Induction Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The 2014 inductees into the Golden Tornado Club Hall of Fame include recent Super Bowl champion Breno Giacomini, a 2004 Malden High graduate.
Giacomini was a starting offensive lineman for the champion Seattle Seahawks this past February. He now plays for the New York Jets. He will be joined by fellow inductees (more below):

The club is hosting its 30th Annual Hall of Fame and Induction Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Malden Moose Hall, 562 Broadway.
In addition to the inductees, the Peter Donoghue Golden Eagle Spirit Award winner and the student essay scholarship recipient will be announced. Bill Honeycutt of John Brewer’s Tavern will be presented the 2014 Distinguished Service Award as well.

The night will start with a social hour reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the induction ceremony after. Tickets are $40 per person and may be reserved up until 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, by calling the Malden High School Athletic Office, 781-397-6007, or emailing jmarquardo@malden.ps.org.

The 1961-1962 Malden High School Boys Basketball Team was considered one of the best teams of the great era of Malden High School basketball in the 1960s. Led by greats such as Willie Barron and the late Bill Carty, Malden finished as Greater Boston League co-champions with Quincy that year after splitting the regular season series with the Presidents, including an epic overtime win for Malden at the old Marshall Gym, which featured what may have been the biggest crowd ever in the former Tornado “barn.” Malden would go on to fall to the same Quincy team, in overtime, in the quarterfinals of the Class A Tech Tourney at the Boston Garden, another epic encounter, and finish with a 17-4 overall record.
John DeBenedictis, Class of 1985. Excelled in baseball and hockey for Malden High School, captained the 1985 Greater Boston League Championship Baseball Team. Led the GBL in hitting with a .487 average; had also led the GBL the previous season at .435. Two-time GBL baseball All-Star selectee. In hockey, captained the Tornado hockey team in 1984-1985.Three-year varsity player. Led team in scoring his senior year, among the GBL scoring leaders. Two-time GBL All-Star. Played baseball at Merrimack College following his high school years.
Olivia Choate, Class of 2001. Excelled as a three-sport standout in field hockey, swimming and softball for Malden High School. Was a four-year varsity performer in all three sports and a Greater Boston League All-Star in all three sports her
junior and senior years. All-Scholastic selectee in softball her senior year. Led Malden High to two GBL softball titles and led the GBL in hitting for two seasons.
Michael Hudd, Class of 2002. Excelled as a three-sport standout in football, hockey and baseball at Malden High School. Captained all three sports as a senior. Was a four-year varsity starter in baseball; three-year starter in football; and three-year varsity player in hockey. Played three of the most important positions in all three sports, quarterback in football, goaltender in hockey and ace pitcher and first baseman in baseball. Set school record for single-season passing yards with 1,581 in 2001. Three-sport All-Star in 2001 and 2002. Went on to play college baseball at College of Central Florida.
Breno Giacomini, Class of 2004. Excelled as a two-sport standout in football and basketball at Malden High School. Was a three-year starter in football and four-year varsity player in basketball. A two-time GBL All-Star in basketball. Went on to play college football at Louisville, then to the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks for the past two seasons and this year with the New York Jets.
