MALDEN, MA — A local car wash chain’s newest location is well on its way to opening.
Prestige Car Wash is currently under construction at 1100 Main St., across the street from Pine Banks Park and on the border of neighboring Melrose. The site was previously the home of Pine Banks Auto until owners Bob and Jim Celona decided to retire in early 2023 after 48 years in business. The city approved a permit for the business to be built at that location after original plans for a Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken location fell through. Construction fencing first went up last August as the renovation from the old auto body shop into a new car wash began, and the facility remains on schedule to open before the end of the year. According to Prestige, this new spot is meant to bridge the geographical gap between its next two closest locations on 62 Broadway in Malden and 186 Tremont St. in Melrose.
Prestige was founded by brothers Joseph, Nir, and Ronen Drory in the city of Taunton two decades ago. The company has seen relatively rapid expansion ever since, including buyouts of fellow local car wash chains Ernie’s and Nice N’ Clean in the last calendar year.
Prestige is now approaching 50 locations throughout New England, with many also including gas pumps. The new location includes features such as an automated express drive-through tunnel, on-site free vacuum stations, and self-service wash bays for customers who wish to clean their vehicle themselves. An official opening date has not yet been announced.
