Artists Take the Street brings together artists, artisans, and musicians for a lively, open-air celebration of creativity. Stroll along Pleasant Street and experience live art demonstrations, enjoy musical performances, and discover unique, handcrafted work.
This event is perfect for all ages, with interactive art activities including face painting and balloon twisting to keep kids (and kids at heart) engaged and entertained.

Join us for English Country Dancing this Sunday afternoon, 3-5PM in the Baystate Cohousing unit on Pleasant St. in Malden Center. This event is FREE! (voluntary donations welcome) 
 
I play the melody on my fiddle while teaching and prompting. Our focus is dances of the 17th century that were brought to New England by the colonists. For any who wish to try playing the melodies, sheet music is available and playing by ear or improvisation are encouraged. 
These baroque tunes make one want to dance! The dances are accessible and the dancers are mostly newcomers so, don't expect a "performance" but rather a nice participatory community event for all ages and abilities.&nbsp;

Please join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, May 6, 2026: 6:00-8:00pm at the Malden Public Library. We will be showing the movie for Haitian Heritage Month about Mountains. The film stars Atibon Nazaire, Sheila Anozier, and Chris Renois. The film is directed by Monica Sorelle and it has won 11 film festival awards.
“A Haitian demolition worker is faced with the realities of redevelopment as he is tasked with dismantling his rapidly gentrifying neighborhood [in Little Haiti, Miami].” The film explores the changing nature of neighborhoods and how communities change over time. In the Haitian Creole language there is a proverb: "Dèyè mòn gen mòn" which means, “Behind mountains there are mountains.” This is a famous Haitian proverb that roughly means when you overcome one obstacle, there is another greater obstacle or challenge ahead of you. This Haitian proverb speaks to the idea of having resilience in life.

If you’ve ever watched Argentine Tango and thought, “I could never do that,” this day is for you. Because you can - and we’ll prove it.The Ultimate Tango Experience Open House is designed especially for newcomers. It’s your chance to explore what tango really is: connection, balance, music, and a conversation without words. No experience, no partner, and no fancy shoes required - just curiosity. 
&nbsp;What to Expect
1:30–3:00 PM - Beginner Class A gentle, guided introduction to Argentine Tango. You’ll learn how to walk in harmony with a partner, find your balance, and discover the rhythm that makes this dance unlike any other.
3:00–6:00 PM - Che Tango Practica After class, stay and dance (or simply observe) in a relaxed, social atmosphere. It’s where learning meets fun - with music, friendly dancers, and a chance to see how beginners and advanced dancers share the same floor.
3:30 PM - Performance by Ultimate Tango Teachers and Students A short showcase to inspire you - and show where your very first steps might take you.
 Why Try Tango? Because tango teaches more than dance. It teaches balance, listening, patience, confidence, and connection - all through movement. Many discover that tango helps them move better, think clearer, and connect deeper - both on and off the dance floor. &nbsp;Special Note for the Brave Ones. Celebrating over 90 years of excellence in fashion education, The School of Fashion Design is the only educational institution in New England dedicated exclusively to the study of fashion design. SFD provides students with a solid foundation in apparel design and construction, and the skills required for a successful career in fashion. Our technical Certificate program is taught by experts in the field of fashion design. Students may take courses toward the Certificate or on a class-by-class basis to fill professional education interests. For creatives and textile arts enthusiasts, SFD offers workshops in various fiber arts such as weaving, lace making, embroidery, millinery, upcycling, and more. As an SFD student, you will join a diverse community of emerging designers.
