Hallmark Health Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, Inc. is presenting an Advance Directives Workshop on Wednesday, November 16 at 1:00pm at the Malden Senior Center, 7 Washington Street in Malden. Guest speaker is Robert Abel, RN, CHPN, Hospice Clinical Manager at Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice.
An advance directive informs a person's doctor what kind of care he would like to have if he becomes unable to make medical decisions. According to Abel, a good advance directive describes the kind of treatment someone would want depending on how sick he is. Advance directives can take many forms, explains Abel, who stresses that the best time to create an advance directive is before a person is sick… when he has a clear understanding about his options and can communicate them to his family and doctor.
In his talk at Malden Senior Center, Abel will explain the advance directive options, provide forms, and assist attendees in completing them. The workshop is free and registration is not necessary to attend.
