The Boston Composers’ Coalition (BCC) presents Vento Chiaro, a Boston-based woodwind quintet, at the First Parish in Malden, Universalist, on Sunday afternoon, April 17, at 1 o’clock. Admission is free.
The concert features the premieres of six new works written for Vento Chiaro by BCC Founder and Director Justin Casinghino, Co-Founder and Associate Director Brett Abigaña, member composers Jeremy van Buskirk, Ramón Castillo, and Po-Chun Wang and young composer Gabe Montague. The BCC also presents the concert on Saturday evening, April 16, at 7 o’clock in Killian Hall at MIT.
The Boston Composers’ Coalition works directly with ensembles to create repertoire with their specific needs in mind, and aims throughout the process to give their audience a back-stage pass to the creative process as the works are being written, rehearsed, and performed. In addition, every concert features a pre-college age composer who works with the ensemble in a professional, practical setting.

As one of the country’s foremost woodwind quintets, Vento Chiaro captivates audiences with engaging performances and inspiring residencies. Founded at the Peabody Conservatory in 1997 and currently based in Boston, the ensemble seeks to break down the traditional barriers between performers and audience members. Since 2002 Vento Chiaro has been the woodwind quintet in residence at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, one of the world’s most renowned summer festivals for talented high school music students. In addition to performing recitals, their responsibilities at Tanglewood include coaching chamber music and leading sectional rehearsals.
