Dorchester in the later 19th Century

Earl Taylor, President of the Dorchester Historical Society will present an illustrated lecture about what life was like in Dorchester in the second half of the nineteenth century.  He will talk about some of the artists, authors and public figures of that period as well as about the changing face of the town after it became a part of the city of Boston.  He will show slides that document the change from a rural landscape to a city neighborhood with the introduction of new buildings for businesses, new styles in church architecture, styles of schools and fire stations as well as the introduction of new styles in residential architecture from the Gothic Revival to the Italianate/Mansard to Queen Anne, Shingle and Stick Style.The talk is being held in the Parish Hall of St. Paul's Parish. It is free and there is free validated parking in the lot next to the church. Light refreshment will follow.
