The Ninth Annual Malden Sketch Group Exhibit will be on display at Commerce Place, 350 Main Street in Malden, from May 16 to June 24, 2011. The exhibit will be open for viewing during lobby hours Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Artist Reception will be sponsored by Preotle, Lane & Associates. The public is invited to come meet the 26 artists represented in the Commerce Place exhibit. Their work includes paintings, drawings, and etchings, some done during sketch group, other pieces represent independent work by the artists. Many works are for sale and a portion of the sale is donated back to the Oak Grove Community Center where the Malden Sketch Group meets.
The Malden Sketch Group is one of the longest-running drawing groups in the Boston Area. Members of the group drop in Mondays and Thursdays at Oak Grove Community Center in Malden from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday for life drawing, and Thursdays for portrait drawing. The group consists of full-time professional artists all the way to enthusiastic beginners. No instruction is given but an atmosphere of support and encouragement prevails.
