Today is Tuesday, Feb. 15. Here are five things you need to know:
Thermal whiplash: After yesterday’s stunningly warm day, today’s expected high of 22 degrees seems especially cruel. It’s only for a day, though; temperatures Wednesday looks like they’ll rebound back into the 40’s.
Diapered divas: Song and rhyme time is back at the library’s Children’s Room today at 10:30 a.m.. Parents and infants are welcome to come by for singing, red along and more.

Boys hoops at home: Dracut comes to challenge the MHS boys basketball team tonight at 7 p.m..
It’s always time to buy flowers: Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but February remains a great month to buy flowers, especially if you buy daffodils from students at Malden High School. The proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, and everyone loves daffodils, so pony up the cash and help a great cause.

Sad days at the corner of Salem and Laurel streets: Parents walking their kids to school have noticed and lamented the absence of Richard “Dick” Smith, the long-time crossing guard who died suddenly last week. The lamentations online and flowers at his normal crossing intersection are testament to the reach Smith had in the community. Our condolences go to Smith’s family, who will have the wake Wednesday night at Weir Funeral Home at 144 Salem St.
