Federal authorities say the man stole thousands of customers' debit and credit card numbers at gas stations across New England.

BOSTON, MA β€” A Florida man is facing federal charges in connection with an ATM skimming scheme at gas stations across New England, the U.S. Attorney's office said. Luis Angel Naranjo Rodriguez, 29, of Hialeah, FL, was charged with possessing 15 or more counterfeit access devices and possession of device-making equipment.

Naranjo Rodriguez was arrested Nov. 17 in Concord, MA after police found him at a closed gas station standing next to an unlocked gas pump with keys in the lock, the USAO said. Officers searched Naranjo Rodriguez and his car and found several skimming devices and additional gas pump keys, authorities said.

Investigators found more than 5,600 account numbers in Naranjo Rodriguez's car and hotel room that appeared to be stolen, according to the USAO. The scheme involved gas stations in Malden, Lynnfield, Concord, Taunton, Randolph and Raynham, MA; Portland, ME; Nashua, NH; and Willington, CT.
