Malden Could Get $908K for Potholes, Bridges, and More
The funds will go toward improving the city's infrastructure, Rep. Ultrino said Thursday.
Malden could receive more than $900,000 toward fixing potholes, repairing bridges, and other infrastructure issues, Rep. Steve Ultrino's office announced Thursday.
The funds - $908,697 - would come as part of a $200 million package for Chapter 90 funding unanimously approved Wednesday by the House of Representatives. The bill still needs to clear the Senate - not expected to hold a formal session until next week - and receive the governor's signature.
“This funding will provide vital resources to the City of Malden for road and infrastructure improvements,” said Representative Steven Ultrino. “These funds can be used to address pot holes, bridge repair and other road and infrastructure issues in our city this construction season.”

The House bill maintained Gov. Charlie Baker's recommended funding level, which municipal officials have said is not sufficient to bring 30,000 miles of local roads into a state of good repair. Introducing the bill, Transportation Committee Chairman Rep. William Straus said the local officials who testified before the Transportation Committee and the House Bonding Committee "did a very good job identifying a much bigger need than we can meet today."
The Legislature passes a Chapter 90 bill each year, and local public works officials are usually anxious to advance projects given the limited construction season in Massachusetts.
