Malden Was Split In Unofficial Election Results

Jason Lewis barely squeaked by, and a lot of Malden Republicans thought Scott Lively was the right man to become governor.

MALDEN, MA — According to unofficial State Primary election results released Tuesday night, some 5,586 ballots were cast in Malden. That accounted to roughly an 18 percent voter turnout, much of which was split on contested races.

State Sen. Jason Lewis won his re-election bid in the Fifth Middlesex District, but it was no picnic for him in Malden. Lewis squeaked by political newcomer Sam Hammar, 2,160-2,126, in the city.

Jay Gonzalez, who topped Bob Massie in the Democratic primary for governor, only won by 60 votes in Malden. The 1,953-1,893 win wasn't indicative of Gonzalez's wider margin of victory statewide.
