Fire Breaks Out On Orange Line

The MBTA said dozens of passenger were aboard an Orange Line train when the fire broke out.

MALDEN, MA — Orange Line service was suspended after a fire near the tracks between Wellington and Oak Grove stations Friday night. Shuttle buses replaced service between the two stations. Service was expected to resume soon, the MBTA said shortly after 6 p.m.

There were dozens of passengers aboard a train headed to Wellington Station when the fire broke out. The MBTA deactivated power to the third rail and the train was evacuated.

The third rail took damage and was being repaired. The train was brought to Wellington Yard, where it will be inspected.
