Peabody Man Charged With Killing Estranged Wife Held Without Bail

Emilio Matarazzo, who police said turned himself in after shooting his wife, had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf Thursday morning.

EVERETT, MA — The Peabody man who prosecutors said fatally shot his estranged wife in her car Wednesday morning was ordered held without bail. Emilio Matarazzo, who Everett police said walked into the station and turned himself in a couple hours after, had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf during his arraignment Thursday morning at Malden District Court.

Matarazzo, 55, is charged with killing Ersilia Cataldo Matarazzo, 50. The two had recently filed for divorce. Cataldo Matarazzo had three children.

She was well known in Everett, a longtime worker at St. Anthony's church and volunteer member of the Board of Assessors. She was the second cousin to Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria and had what police called a large extended family.

"She was a lovely lady and very involved in the community," Everett Police Chief Steve Mazzie, who knew Cataldo Matarazzo, said. "It's sad to see something like this to happen to a person like that around the holiday season."

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Wednesday that Cataldo Matarazzo was in her car in her parents' driveway on Central Ave. when around 8:30 a.m. her husband shot her multiple times in the torso with a shotgun-style.
