Repairing Infrastructure in Malden vs Schools

The stalled discussions on PAYT, trash bag debate, seems to still be going nowhere. Residents don’t like it and it isn’t going to be rescinded. Enough said.

On the roads: An “additional” $12 million needed this year to repair the roads? Those funds have to come from somewhere.
No doubt that items like this will cause pressure in other parts of the city budget, like the schools.
Where is all this extra money coming from, that the powers that be didn’t see about to hit us?

Our community needs to be more inquisitive about how and where all the money is going, even if we aren’t professional accountants.
Hard choices are being made about what issues will get relevant attention in the upcoming budget battles the Spring. We all have to take sides and advocate for our issues. Once again, I am advocating for the Malden Public Schools.

Promoting high standards and maintaining high levels of care and learning in our local school systems will have spill over benefits to the rest of the system for many years and generations to come. Innovative programs, like the Calculus Project, cannot be underestimated. Wish these were around, when I was younger.
