Soccer Teams Succeed at Commissioner's Cup

Four Malden Youth Soccer teams won their divisions at the Commissioner's Cup. Three go on to the state tournament.

Twelve of Malden Youth Soccer’s twenty-six travel teams made it to the Middlesex league tournament this year, which is a tremendous achievement. Competing against team eighteen towns that comprise the Middlesex Youth Soccer League, four Malden teams emerged victorious. The Boys Under-14 team coached by Dean Martins, Salmon Silva, and Emerson Madeira won the MYSL Boys Division III Commissioner’s Cup.

Division I and II teams play at the MYSL Commissioner’s Cup to determine which will represent Middlesex at the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions. Three Malden teams won the play-offs at the Cup and so will represent Middlesex at MTOC: the Boys Under-12 team coached by Emil Berbic and Almir Bulic; the Boys Under-14 team coached by Esad Sinanovic, Davor Dvanajscak, and Gilson Viera; and the Boys Under-16 team coached by Kerstin Toh, Jose Moscote, and Johnny Ospina. All three teams have had almost all the same players for years. Last year, Toh’s team was the BU14 state champion; they hope to repeat this year, in the U16 age group.

In addition to our four division winners, four teams were runners-up: the Girls Under-12 team coached by Michael Gray, Camilus Aristil, and Hugo Ruperti, Division III; the Boys Under-12 team coached by Ed Andrews, Ahmed Almushrif, and Ozzie Morales, Division V; and the Boys Under-14 team coached by Debo Onifade, Jose Palma, and Jack Faulstic, Division V.
