Trial Set for Malden Man Accused of Shooting at Officer
Jeremiah Wooden was arrested and charged with attempting to shoot a Salem police officer in April.

MALDEN, MA – A Malden man accused of shooting at a Salem police officer last spring will face trial next April, according to Essex County District Attorney Spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan.
Jeremiah "Jay" Wooden, 22, of Malden is set to face trial in April 2017, Kimball-Monahan told Patch. Wooden was indicted on charges including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and carrying a firearm without a license.
Before facing trial, Wooden's lawyer has filed a motion to dismiss some of the charges against his client. The Newburyport News reports that Wooden's attorney filed a motion seeking to reduce the attempted murder charge to assault.

Wooden was arrested on April 15 in Lynn following the alleged incident on Fairfield Street in Salem. The Malden man allegedly shot at Salem officers while they were attempting to arrest him for warrants.

During a foot chase and struggle, Wooden police say that pulled out a gun and fired a shot at the officers, who were not hit or injured.
Wooden then fled on foot, police say.
The Newburyport News also reports that the officer who was shot at but not hit, Patrolman Brian St. Pierre, has returned to work as the school resource officer.
