Mansfield Schools Apply For Grant To Add Social Worker

The social worker would provide support for students who were hospitalized or kept out of school because of mental health issues.

MANSFIELD, MA — The school district has applied for a grant to help students come back to school following absences caused by mental health issues. The school committee voted unanimously to seek the 10-year school health grant.

With Mansfield eligible for an $80,000 a year grant, Christine Dooling, the district's director of health services told Wicked Local the district is proposing to use the grant to hire a social worker to start a Bridge Foundations program at the high school. Bridge Foundation programs provide support for students who were hospitalized or kept out of school because of mental health issues. The goal is to help students integrate back into school.

Grant awards will be announced in March.
