MANSFIELD, MA — With a new school year underway, the teachers of the Mansfield Public Schools have new contracts following negotiations with the administration.
Last week, the Mansfield School Committee voted to ratify the teachers' contract with the Mansfield Educators Association. The three-year deal runs through Aug. 31, 2020, and includes a yearly 2 percent raise for the teachers.
Superintendent Teresa Murphy said there are 43 changes to the new deal, mainly housekeeping items. Some of the changes include additional evaluation for department heads, who will now be evaluated as a teacher and a department head.

“I was very struck with how the educators, the school committee, and the administration all came in with the same feeling that what matters the most is that we’re educating our children. Anything that came out was about that,” committee member Lauren Scher said.
The MEA voted to ratify the contract a week earlier, with representatives from the organization echoing Scher’s comments.
