Work On $7.5 Million Mansfield Train Station Project Starts Next Month
The start of construction on the two-year project is approaching.
MANSFIELD, MA — About 24 months of work at the Mansfield train station will begin next month, the MBTA announced Thursday.
The $7.5 million project is set to include brand new pedestrian ramps, stairways to allow platforms to be accessible for inbound and outbound passengers, and replacement of the existing mini-high platforms, which are currently in poor condition with compliant mini-high platforms. Two temporary platforms are to be installed by construction contractor Barletta Heavy Division Inc., while the existing mini-high platforms are replaced in order to maintain public access, according to MBTA.
Commuters can also expect the repaving of both platforms, new canopies, new tactile strips along both platforms, new lighting, guard rails, bollards, signage, curb cuts, and parking lot improvements for better accessibility.

The project is expected to have an effect on parking. Last week, Debra Willard, a residential engineer for the MBTA, told the selectmen that about 110 spots will be temporarily lost during construction and the transit authority hopes to utilize the County Street lot in Foxborough as temporary parking, with GATRA buses transporting riders from the lot to the station.
