Teens ages 13-19 will explore how rotating gears, ratios, and repeating motion can generate intricate geometric artwork using Spirograph drawing tools. Participants can experiment with layered designs and adjust digital inputs to see how mathematical relationships affect the resulting patterns. Alongside physical drawing tools, participants can use interactive software to compare hand-drawn and computer-generated designs and follow a pattern’s transition from paper, to digital design, to fabrication on the library’s 3D printer and laser cutter. The materials are used during the program so participants can create satisfying designs at their own pace, whether casually experimenting or refining more complex compositions.
Space is limited to 10 participants ages 13-19, and online registration is required. Please register at tinyurl.com/teen-spirograph. This program is led by Dan Saulnier, Technical Resource Specialist at the library.
Funding for this program has been provided by the Abbot Public Library Foundation.
