Madam Had'em Finds

Patch columnist Darcy Mayers combed the racks for designer duds downtown.

I have a confession to make: I have fleece pullovers in nearly ever color made. It's pretty much my uniform all fall and winter.

Jeans, fleece, some clunky clogs and voila, I'm ready to go. It makes the mornings much simpler, but more than that, I've always been a tomboy at heart and high heels make me wobbly in more ways than one. Needless to say, I'm probably not the first person anyone would expect to confidently roam the racks of designer duds at consignment boutique, Madam Had'em.

Which is why I enlisted help – in the form of Lindsey Foley, a personal stylist who operates her business out of Marblehead. Also a contributor to galtime.com, Lindsey helps her clients prune and reorganize their wardrobes with a "closet consultation" and arranges shopping expeditions to carefully select new items.

Lindsey knows her Prada from her Von Furstenberg, and thankfully, she was incredibly gracious when I explained that I…don't.

So with Lindsey at my side, we met Cheryl McGuire and her assistant Katie at Madam Had'em to see what we could find at a variety of price points and for a fashion neophyte like me.

Playing dress up was a complete ball, especially with experts on hand. But the best part: I didn't tip over once!
