Squirt Gun Game Could Have Led to Rollover Crash Wednesday

Marblehead police are continuing to investigate the collision.

A car carrying two juveniles rolled over near Harbor Avenue and Nanepashemet Street Wednesday afternoon during what police say could have been a game of Assassins.

At least two cars were towed and two more vehicles are listed in the log entry as having been involved. According to the police log narrative, two juveniles in each of two vehicles were playing a game of Assassins at the time of the crash. The game involves players being assigned a target and once that target is hit with a squirt gun blast, that target is out.

“It’s dangerous,” Marblehead Police Chief Robert Picariello said. “We shouldn’t be playing games like this, assuming that’s what this all is.”

Picariello said a citation for failure to yield had been issued to one of the drivers, but he did not yet know whether any further citations would be issued following the completed investigation. There are no laws prohibiting playing a game while driving, he pointed out, but citations can be issued for traffic violations that might occur during the game.

According to the police log, one patient was transported to North Shore Medical Center and three others signed patient refusals.
