Terry's Reopening on Atlantic Avenue

Terry's Ice Cream Shop will be reopening this spring in the former home of Kaps Menswear on Atlantic Avenue.

, which has been closed for more than eight months, will reopen this spring in the former home of Kaps Menswear on Atlantic Avenue.

Terry's owner Carlos Rocha said he was excited to reopen his ice cream parlor in the 1,300-square-foot space adjacent to and .

"I think it will be a great space for us," Rocha said Wednesday afternoon. "A lot of people come through that area and there is a lot of parking in the back."

Earlier this month, Barry Edelman, owner of , announced that his restaurant into the parlor's former home on School Street.

Both businesses were forced to close after an left the building with severe smoke and water damage. Since that time the entire inside of the building has been gutted and work to rebuild the restaurant is now underway.

Rocha said his new space, which is set back from the street, will likely require a hanging sign facing Atlantic Avenue to draw in customers. 

"We're working on getting a sign up now," Rocha said. "We hope to have at least something up in the window by the end of the week."

Rocha said customers looking forward to his grand reopening can expect a return to the 50's theme of "Terry's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shop."

Marblehead Patch will be posting information about the reopening when Rocha has a date nailed down. Until then, Rocha said he will continue selling from his ice cream truck in the center of town.
