Marlborough Gives Funding To Boys & Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Metro West received funding from Marlborough's community development block grant.

MARLBOROUGH, MA- The city of Marlborough was awarded $800,000 through the Community Development Block Grant. As part of the grant, $49,000 will target the "Prevention through Positive Youth Development" program at the Boys and Girls Club of MetroWest.

The goal of the program is to provide young people with a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and a sense of influence. Program activities develop social, problem solving, communication, goal setting and decision-making skills.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest serves over 3,200 children and youth each year. It is one of the largest and most affordable Boys & Girls Club organizations in Massachusetts. 2019 marks the 75th anniversary for the MetroWest group.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner with the City of Marlborough in prevention education and activities for our youth,” said Chris Duane, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest. “We want to thank Mayor Vigeant, the Board of Directors, and Doug Bushman, Executive Director for the Marlborough Community Development Authority. Without these individuals and their understanding of the importance of prevention in addition to intervention, this project could not take off. We look forward to working with various community groups to help make this an impactful success for the City of Marlborough,” he said.
