Marlborough Preps For Big Labor Day Weekend With Parade's Return

Here's what to know about Marlborough's 69th Labor Day parade, including performers, parking and more.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — This weekend will mark the first true Marlborough-style Labor Day since 2019.

Following last year's coronavirus cancellation, the city's annual Labor Day parade is back for its 69th edition this year. Marlborough will also host a special Labor Day concert organized by the parks department.

The parade will step off at noon on Monday led by local healthcare workers, who have been named this year's grand marshals. But the parade will feature a packed lineup of local musicians, floats and performers.

The Navy Band's Northeast marching band will headline the parade, while local rock and pop groups The Reminisants, Three of a Kind, the Missy Maxfield Project and Flashback will also perform. Several local student bands are also marching, including the Marlborough High School Tri-M Music Honors Society, the Marlborough Marching Panther Band and the UMass Lowell Marching Band.

More music will be provided by the New Liberty Jazz Band, the Colonial Pipers Bagpipe Band, the William Diamond Jr. Fife and Drum Corps, the Middlesex County Volunteers Fife and Drums, the Sudbury Ancient Fyfe Drum Companie, the Waltham American Legion Band and the Keene American Legion Band.

And one favorite of the parade is back this year: a Marlborough Public Schools float will feature local school cafeteria workers, who worked through the pandemic preparing to-go meals for children and families across the city.

The Labor Day parade will also bring a number of street and parking closures to the downtown area. Parking for the parade will be available at businesses near the downtown area, and a shuttle bus will ferry attendees between the American Legion along Maple Street and downtown.

To kick off the festivities, a pre-parade concert will be held Sunday night at Union Common beginning at 7 p.m. featuring the band Late Bus.
