Monday Manual: Big Motorcycle Ride, Library Opening, Spooktacular

Look ahead to 7 things this week, including a new car wash in Framingham, a potential new marijuana store and outdoor movies.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Welcome to the Aug. 9 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.

This week we're starting in Marlborough, which recently opened a new elementary school named after three brothers from the city who died fighting in the Civil War. Marlborough has a law deeming that any new public facility — including streets, parks and schools — must be named after a deceased veteran.

1) Marlborough

The Shawna J. Larassa motorcycle ride returns on Saturday. The ride, one of the largest in New England, raises money for a scholarship fund named after Larassa, who died in 2009 at age 19 in a car crash in Dudley.

2) Framingham

More car wash business in Framingham this week. The Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday will hold a hearing about a plan to tear down and rebuild the car wash at 1183 Worcester Road. This is one of two car wash developments going on along Route 9.

3) Sudbury

The Friends of the Goodnow Library will host its first outdoor movie event of the summer on Friday. The "Friends Flicks-in-Cars-Under-the-Stars" will show the animated film "The Incredibles."

4) Wayland

On Monday, Earth Well Farms will speak to the Select Board about a medical marijuana facility it wants to open in a building at 526 Boston Post Road. Wayland has a zoning ban on adult-use cannabis facilities.

5) Natick

The town is preparing for a potentially large number of events this fall. The Select Board on Wednesday will decide whether to grant permission for events including a public rosary, a suicide prevention walk, the Spooktacular festival and Natick Days.

6) Milford

The state's VaxBus will be at Stacy Middle School on Monday. Along with free Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, the first 100 to get vaccinated will receive a $25 gift card to a local grocery store.

7) Worcester

After a long renovation, the Worcester Public Library system will hold an opening ceremony for the main branch downtown on Thursday. A ribbon cutting will be held at 4 p.m. that day at 3 Salem Square.
