Shipwrecked Cape Cod Boater Rescued After 13 Hours At Sea
A Medford man's boat capsized off Cape Cod and his cell phone sank, according to Yarmouth police.
YARMOUTH, MA — A Medford man is lucky to be alive after his boat capsized in frigid Cape Cod waters Monday night. The 36-year-old spent more than 13 hours clinging to the overturned boat — and he was unable to call for help after his phone sank, according to police.
"He lost his cell phone in the water and did the best he could to keep his life jacket on and cling to the boat and wait for help," police said in a statement.
The man's girlfriend notified authorities when he failed to contact her after launching his 14-foot aluminum boat in Yarmouth. A Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted the man at about 4 a.m. and he was rescued. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital and expected to be released later Tuesday.
