BROTHERS MARKETPLACE IN MEDFIELD CELEBRATES ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Fun-filled community fair event with dunk tank, potato sack races and pie-eating contest

Brothers Marketplace, your neighborhood market featuring handpicked selections of fresh foods, local products, delicious prepared meals, and grocery essentials, celebrated its one-year anniversary this past weekend, with fun county fair events, samples from local vendors, lunch on the grill and more.

The celebration included a dunk tank to watch favorite Brothers Marketplace staff members get soaking wet, traditional fair games such as potato sack races and a water balloon toss, and a pie-eating contest. The event featured free soft drinks and ice cream, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers grilled for lunch, plus a visit from an Empanada Truck.

Brothers Marketplace is a next-generation offering from Roche Bros. Supermarkets, a family business that was founded by brothers Pat and Bud Roche in 1952. The business is co-owned by Pat’s sons, Rick and Ed Roche.

Brothers Marketplace, which also has a location in Weston, brings an innovative approach to food, with a nod to the legacy of small neighborhood markets from long ago. Shoppers find unique offerings in prepared foods, baked goods, seasonal and exotic produce, meats, cheeses and packaged foods from local producers. Brothers Marketplace provides busy customers the ability to purchase grab-and-go items quickly while also offering an experiential setting for lingering and savoring an array of seasonal foods.

Welcoming associates help customers navigate the aisles of fresh produce and handcrafted artisanal products, sample the unique offerings, and provide recommendations for preparing foods. The Medfield market emphasizes local producers and vendors that have been handpicked by store associates including Nola’s Fresh Foods from Jamaica Plain, La Nina Tortilla Chips from Everett, Iggy’s Breads from Cambridge, produce from Natick Community Organic Farm in Natick and many others.

In its first year, Brothers Marketplace sold 9,000 of its signature cookies, made from scratch in-store, 18,500 house-made meatballs, and a whopping 2 tons of homemade eggplant.

Brothers Marketplace employs 112 associates in Medfield, most of whom reside in the local community. During the snowiest Massachusetts winter on record, the store was open during every snowstorm, on some occasions managed by only two associates.

The store is proud to support the local community with regular food donations to the food pantry, in addition to supporting Medfield Youth Outreach, an organization that helps families with children in need.

Throughout its first year in business, the store hosted fun, interactive events to bring members of the Medfield community together around the farmers’ table in the in-store café. Favorites were gingerbread decorating at holiday time and Candy Sushi Making, where children made sushi out of candy.

Brothers Marketplace has two locations. Brothers Marketplace in Medfield is located at 446 Main Street and Brothers Marketplace in Weston is located at 41 Center St. Store hours are Mondays-Saturdays (7 a.m.–9 p.m.) and Sundays (8 a.m.–8 p.m.).
