Cub Scouts Jump Into Summer with Pawtucket Red Sox Overnight

Local Pack 200 cub scouts jumped into summer with one of the highlights of the Scouting schedule - the Pawtucket Red Sox overnight. Year after year, this is regarded by the scouts as one of the highlights of the year. This year did not disappoint, as once again all the ingredients came together for a great night - including a parade, a ball-game, fireworks and a sleepover in center field.

The night started with a Scout parade before the game out through the central field of historic McCoy Field in Pawtucket. The scouts joined with troops from around the state. The Pawtucket Red Sox also get the fans into the game by having theme nights. On this night the theme was Star Wars, so the scouts were joined on the field with a collection of Star Wars most famous characters including Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Luke Skywater along with a host of Storm Troopers and other characters.

Next, the scouts got to enjoy a great game of baseball in one of the best parks in triple AAA. Built it 1946, McCoy Stadium is a beautiful stadium, and also has the distinct honor of hosting the longest game in professional baseball, a 33 inning marathon that ended at 4:07 am. Whether on a scout outing or a family trip, the Pawtucket Red Sox cater to family fun. Throughout the game, the kids were engaged through games, songs, and other activities.

After the game, the fans enjoyed a fireworks show complemented by music from Star Wars. The Paw Sox have fireworks after every Saturday night home game as well as the game over the July 4th weekend.

The highlight of the trip was after the fireworks when the scouts were allowed out onto the outfield to set up camp for the night. After setting up tents, the scouts were allowed to play catch on center field, simulate playing balls off the center field wall, or watch the movie on the big screen - The Sandlot.

This was one of the final events of a busy year for Pack 200. Medfield is well known for having one of the strongest scout traditions in all of Massachusetts.
