The Dedham Institution for Savings Foundation is donating $5,000 to the Straw Hat Park Committee, a Medfield Foundation initiative, to fund the building of a functional park in downtown Medfield. Straw Hat Park will serve as a comfortable, shady sitting area located just a short walk from Medfield Town Hall. The completed project is meant to encourage foot traffic in the downtown business district. The grant will contribute to the beautification of the town with uniquely designed public green space that will include flower beds, a water fountain, public seating, game tables, lighting, and an arrangement of large granite blocks. Additional planned amenities also include drainage systems and drought tolerant plants for sustainability as well as wheelchair access and bike racks to encourage greater visitation.
