Eighth Week - Monday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"Reverend Joseph Baxter was Medfield’s second minister, replacing the town’s first minister Rev. John Wilson. Reminder that Medfield was founded by Puritans, only the one Puritan Church was permitted and at the time there was no separation of church and state. Baxter graduated from Harvard at a very young age in 1693. He was a native of Braintree. He would go on to serve as minister of First Parish in Medfield for 48 years. It was said that “he was much respected and generously supported.” When he began at the church in 1697 there was a membership of 65. He would increase that membership by 373 during his tenure. Baxter died in May 1745 and is buried in Vine Lake Cemetery."
