Fifteenth Week - Saturday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"On August 1, 1940 more than 600 Medfield parents and children gathered at Kingsbury Pond, which was the town’s swimming location. The occasion was the first water carnival sponsored by the Acacia Club and under the direction of lifeguard Herbert Wilkins, Jr. Medfield children had been using Kingsbury Pond for swimming for years and in 1937 the Acacia Club donated funds to improve the beach area and supply a lifeguard. During the water carnival, Millis transported children from that town and friendly swimming competitions took place between the two towns, including tub races across the pond and “around-the -island.” Kingsbury Pond remained the town’s swim pond up until the mid-1950s."
