The Orthodox Congregational Church (now the UCC Church) with all its contents, as well as the chapel burnt to the ground.

The straw hat factory of Daniel D. Curtis on North Street (now site of the Montrose School) took fire.

In spite of all efforts to save it, the flames swept steadily on until the entire building burnt to the ground. The present structure was then built in its place."
