Hunter's Run

A 5K & 1 Mile fun run to raise awareness of Organ Donation & support Boston Children's Hospital

Hunter’s Run - April 3 - Kingsbury Club, Medfield

April 3rd, 2016 I am helping to organize an event, Hunter’s Run in Medfield, MA. This event is going to bring awareness to Organ Donation, at the same time benefiting Boston Children’s Hospital.

Many people think of organ donation as a box they have to check when they are renewing their license. Some check yes, some check no, most without giving it a second thought unless it personally reaches your family.

It reached my family on October 7th, 2004 when my Father had his double lung transplant. I was given an extra ten and a half years with my Dad because someone chose to give the gift of life. A lot of amazing memories took place in that ten and a half years, including my wedding. If that person or family had been selfish, I would not have had my Dad to walk me down the aisle or dance with at my wedding. Those are things I will cherish forever. On July 16th, 2015 my father, James T. Murphy passed away after ten and a half years of living with his second chance at life because a donor said yes.

On July 16th, 2015 Hunter Williams received his second double lung transplant. His first came when he was just twenty-one months old. Hunter’s mom, Kristen Williams, understands the time that she has with her son is a gift that has been given to her family twice and she cherishes every moment of it. But, she realizes there are so many each year that don’t get the same gift because so many just don’t know about registering to become an organ donor or have to many questions to feel comfortable to make the decision. Hunter’s Run was Kristen’s dream to help more people realize how they can help so many people.

When I read about Hunter’s Run I knew that it was something I had to get behind because someone gave my family the gift when they chose organ donation and I want to help others understand any questions they may have so if the time comes they can make the decision to help a family like mine or a family like Hunter’s.
